The Biography of Jeane Dixon
Jeane Dixon was perhaps the best-known astrologer in America during the later part of the twentieth century. She is believed to have predicted the assassination of President John F. Kennedy as well as the presidency of Ronald Reagan. She predicted the bricks from the Berlin Wall would be sold as souvenirs although she was inaccurate as to the exact century it would occur. She had many famous clients including politicians and celebrities.
Early Life
Jeane Dixon was born in Medford, Wisconsin on January 3, 1904. She was raised in California, but other than that, not too much is known about her personal life. She was raised a Roman Catholic and always credited God for her gift of psychic ability. She said her mother took her to a fortuneteller when she was 8 and the fortuneteller told her, after looking at her palm that she would become a famous seer and offer advice to very powerful people. She married auto dealer James Dixon in 1939. James later became an Estate Agent executive in Washington, with Jeane working with him for many years. Her reputation as a psychic grew within the community and she often gave readings to servicemen during World War II.
Predictions
Jeane Dixon made many predictions that sadly were not heeded. She warned actress Carole Lombard that it would be dangerous for her to travel by plane in January 1942, but the actress insisted on going to a war bonds rally in Indianapolis. She was to return by train, but at the last minute decided to take a plane. Even at a stopover in Albuquerque, she was asked to give up her seat, but she was anxious to return home. The plane crashed after it encountered a violent storm outside Las Vegas. She became well known after making a prediction in the May 13, 1956 issue of Parade Magazine. She said that the 1960 presidential election would be “dominated by labor and won by a Democrat.” She went on to say the president would be a tall young man with blue eyes and brown hair. She went on to say that that Democratic president would be assassinated or die somehow while in office, but not necessarily in his first term. She had initially made this prediction in 1952, while Kennedy was still a senator in Massachusetts. Although it was reported, that prediction was soon forgotten, but the 1956 prediction helped solidify her reputation as a psychic.
It is said that Jeane told friends on November 22, 1963 “this is the day it would happen” and tried to contact President Kennedy but was unsuccessful. Later that afternoon, President Kennedy was killed while riding in an open car in Dallas, Texas.
Jeane also predicted the death of another Kennedy - Robert. While at a meeting in the Ambassador Hotel, she was asked if Robert would ever become president. She said, “No, he will never become President of the United States because of a tragedy right here in this hotel.” Kennedy won the California primary and he was shot after addressing the crowd at a victory rally in at the Ambassador Hotel. He died the next day.
Fame
In 1965, syndicated columnist Ruth Montgomery published A Gift of Prophecy: The Phenomenal Jeane Dixon, which covered several hundred accurate predictions Jeane had made. The book was a national best seller, selling more than 3 million copies. Jeane became popular not only for her readings, but she was also very much in demand on the lecture circuit and began a syndicated horoscope column. While Jeane gained fame for her predictions, she also received backlash for them. Each year, she would make predictions for the coming year that were published in several tabloids. Many people made a game of pointing out any inaccurate predictions she made.
Works
Jeane wrote a total of seven books: My Life and Prophecies (1968), Reincarnation and Prayers to Live By (1970), The Call to Glory (1972), Yesterday, Today, and Forever (1976), Jeane Dixon’s Astrological Cookbook (1976), A Gift of Prayer (1995), and Do Cats Have ESP (2000).She died on January 26, 1997 at the age of 93 from cardiopulmonary arrest.
Jeane was a very popular psychic and astrologer during the time of the New Age movement. There is no doubt that her predictions and fame helped bring psychic ability and astrology to the forefront of many people’s minds.
